The Locale
The south shore of Lake Tahoe straddles the Nevada-California border and offers a trove of recreation, dining, and entertainment options. The south shore is unique in many ways, not least of which is the presence of large casino hotels offering gaming opportunities, fine dining, and A-list entertainers. The outdoors are immediately accessible, with hiking, biking, kayaking, and other recreation pursuits within walking distance. October offers the best of both worlds in Tahoe; summer crowds have largely departed, but the weather is mild and sunny. On Saturday, October 19th, the conference will offer a bus tour of the entire lake and its wide variety of ecological and social communities. For those seeking to go further afield, San Francisco, Napa Valley, Point Reyes, and other lowland destinations are about a 3-4 hour drive.
